This is Miyahora of IMS.

There's only one month left for this year! Like many people, I set 2019 resolutions for myself at the beginning of the year, but.... well, please use your imagination. 🙂

I would like to take this time to talk about U.S. visas, and what sort of information they have written. If your visa is approved at a U.S. Embassy interview, your passport and other documents will be returned to you at a later date (usually by mail). When you receive your visa, please take a few minutes to check that the following information is correct.

  1. Is your name spelled correctly?
  2. Does it have your correct Passport number?
  3. Is your gender marker correct?
  4. Is your visa class (category) correct?
  5. Is your Date of Birth correct?
  6. Is your nationality correct?
  7. Is the Expiration Date correct? (I.e. the expiration date seems appropriate for your purpose of traveling to the U.S.)

Please make sure to also check the Entries and Annotations if they are written. Entries are either Single Entry or Multiple (the photo above has "M" for multiple). Single entry allows you to enter the U.S. once during the visa's validity. Meanwhile, Multiple entry lets you enter the U.S. many time before the expiration date, as long as your purpose of entry is consistent with your visa type. The Annotation section has information such as whether the Two-Year Rule is applied.

Entries and Annotations are determined by the decision of the U.S. Embassy Consul, and vary on a case-by-case basis. You may receive Single Entry even if you apply for Multiple, for example.
