Highly Skilled Professionals can apply for permanent residence even if they have not been continuously residing in Japan for less than 10 years.

Highly Skilled Professional status holders with 80 or more points on the Highly Skilled Professional Points Chart and who have been continuously residing in Japan for at least one year may apply for permanent residence.

Similarly, those with Highly Skilled Professional status who have scored 70 or more points on the Highly Skilled Professional Points Chart and have been continuously residing in Japan for at least three years may be eligible to apply for permanent residence.

Highly Skilled Professional with 80 points or more

Basic Conditions

■Highly Skilled Professional status and have resided in Japan for at least 1 year.

■You must have 80 points or more when calculating points at the time of application.

■Must have had 80 points or more when the points were calculated one year prior to the date of application.

Documents related to contributions to Japan (certificate of commendation, letter of appreciation, copy of distinguished service, letter of recommendation prepared by a representative of the company or organization to which the applicant belongs, etc.)
