This is Tomita of IMS.

The final month of the year has crept up on us! And 2020, which felt so far away when they decided to hold the Olympic Games in Tokyo, is now approaching. More cold days are coming, and though each day gets busier, please take care of yourself.

The Immigration Bureau has started accepting applications for Certificates of Eligibility (COEs) for international students with April 2020 enrollment dates. Normally, COE applications are accepted only three months before the expected date of entry into Japan. However, due to the increase of international students in recent years, applications for April and October semesters will be accepted earlier in the year.

The examination period (from application acceptance to visa issuance) for April students seemed to be getting longer with each passing year, but examinations now should take "2-3 months at the soonest." The length of examination will depend on when you submit your application, so please apply as soon as possible.

Each year, we receive a large number of requests for proxy application for spring enrollment of international students, and the busiest period of the year is between December and March.
