To obtain a Business Manager visa, the following requirements must be met;

1. have secured an independent place of business

2. Employ 2 or more full-time employees in Japan OR have capital or investment of 5 million yen or more.

3. Be able to explain in a business plan (written in Japanese) that the business will be operated in a stable and continuous manner.

4. If working as a business manager (general manager, branch manager, or so-called "hired president" without investment), the applicant must have at least three years of experience in business management and administration, and must receive remuneration equivalent to or greater than that of a Japanese national.

Each of these requirements has detailed examination criteria, so it is not enough to have formally cleared them. For example, it is not enough to prepare a business office, capital of 5 million yen or more, and a simple business plan to be approved for a business manager visa.

(1) Secure a business office.

⇒ The business office must be located in Japan. 

2) Business must be above a certain size.

⇒ A) In addition to the Business Manager Visa applicant, two or more full-time employees (*1) residing in Japan must be engaged in the business.

OR

 B) The amount of capital/total amount of investment must be 5 million yen or more.

(The size of the company must be recognized as equivalent to A or B) 

3) Stability and continuity of business

⇒The business must be objectively recognized as a stable and continuous operation. 

(4) A certain amount of work experience and remuneration are required to engage in the management of the business.

⇒If working as a business manager, at least 3 years of experience (*2) in business management/administration is required.

And, the remuneration must be equal to or greater than that of Japanese nationals. 

*1: Specifically, Japanese nationals, special permanent residents, permanent residents, spouses, etc. of Japanese nationals, spouses, etc. of permanent residents, and long term residents (excluding those with status of residence in Appended Table 1 of the Immigration Control Act).

*2: Including the period during which the applicant majored in a subject related to business or management at a graduate school.
