For those who have been approved for permanent residence, here are some important points to keep in mind.
Points to keep in mind after receiving a Permanent Resident Visa in Japan
Congratulations to those who have successfully been approved after applying for a permanent residence permit in Japan! You can now live in Japan with peace of mind.
You are no longer restricted from working, and you no longer need to renew your status of residence.
Furthermore, you can act as a guarantor for your friend when he or she applies for a permanent residence visa.
However, we would like to tell you a word of caution that you should not forget.
Re-entry within the period of validity of the re-entry permit
A permanent resident is a person who has been granted permanent residence by the Minister of Justice and who has made his/her home in Japan for the rest of his/her life.
Please note that even if you have a permanent resident permit, if you leave Japan without a "re-entry permit" or do not re-enter Japan within the period of validity, your permanent resident status will also be terminated.
① If you leave Japan with a "deemed re-entry permit" in the form of a check on your re-entry/departure record (re-entry ED card) at the airport or other place where you leave Japan, you must re-enter Japan within one year.
② If you have obtained a "re-entry permit" from the Immigration Bureau before leaving Japan, you must re-enter Japan before the expiration date of the permit (maximum 5 years).
To avoid losing the "permanent residence permit" granted to you, be sure to meet the re-entry deadline.
You must apply for renewal of the validity period of your residence card
Your residence card that has been granted permanent residence will clearly indicate "the period of validity of this card.
The validity period of a "Permanent Resident" resident card is seven years.
You need to "apply for renewal of the validity period of the resident card" between two months prior to the expiration date of the validity period of the resident card and the expiration date of the validity period of the resident card.
Go to the Immigration Bureau and submit the application form with a photograph taken within 3 months prior to the date of submission.
Take your passport and your current resident card with you. You will be issued a new residence card with a new photo on the same day.
After 7 years, you should change your photo to a more recent one.
If you are sentenced to prison, you will be deported
Once you receive a "Japan permanent resident permit," there are no restrictions on your period of stay or activities, but this only means that you are free to engage in activities within the scope of Japanese law.
If you are sentenced to one year or more in prison for a crime such as theft, you will be deported to your home country even if you have a permanent resident visa.
Foreign nationals are often given heavier sentences than Japanese nationals without a stay of execution.
Please obey the law and live in Japan as a good resident.
