This is Stephanie of IMS. On April 6, 2022, the Japanese government announced that it would be removing the entry bans on 106 countries and regions, including the U.S., most of Europe, and many nations in Southeast Asia. The changes will take effect on Friday, April 8.
Visas will be required for entry, and measures limiting entry for business and study purposes will continue as usual. Tourists will still not be allowed to enter Japan.
The lifting of these bans is based on a comprehensive assesment of the current COVID-19 infection and vaccination status. Some of the countries affected include: the United States and Canada in North America; the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy in Europe; and Thailand and Indonesia in Asia.
56 other countries and regions, including Russia and Iraq, will continue to be denied entry into Japan.
