Hello, this is Shimoyama from IMS. The weekend is apparently going to bring spring-like warmth... It's hard to believe February is almost ending. It seems we’re getting closer and closer to the end of winter and the start of spring.
Now for today, I would like to explain three major points that define the new border measures announced by the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare that will come into effect in March 2022.
Change of self-quarantine period at your place of accommodation after entry into Japan
The required self-quarantine period at your place of accommodation after entering Japan will change depending on whether or not you have stayed in a designated country/region (https://www.anzen.mofa.go.jp/covid19/pdf2/0224_list.pdf) and whether or not you have had your third vaccination.
■ People returning from or entering from a designated country or region
For those who have not received their 3rd vaccine
⇒ If your COVID-19 test taken after quarantining for 3 days at the specific facilities designated by the chief of the quarantine station is negative, this marks the end of your self-quarantine period.
For those who have received the third dose of the vaccine※
⇒ In principle, one can undergo a self-quarantine of 7 days at home or another place of accommodation, or if you take a voluntary COVID-19 test on or after the third day after entry into Japan and the result is negative, this marks the end of your self-quarantine period,
■ People returning from or entering from a country or region other than those designated
For those who have not received their 3rd vaccine※
⇒ In principle, one can undergo a self-quarantine of 7 days at home or another place of accommodation, or if you take a voluntary COVID-19 test on or after the third day after entry into Japan and the result is negative, this marks the end of your self-quarantine period,
For those who have received the third dose of the vaccine
⇒ No self-quarantine period
Regarding the use of public transportation after entering Japan
For those who meet the above criteria ※, public transportation may be used when traveling to one's home or other places for self-quarantine after entry.
However, the transportation must be completed within 24 hours of the test (sample collection) at the time of entry and must be the shortest route to one's place of accommodation (home, etc.).
Revision of Restrictions on New Entry for Foreign Nationals
Foreign nationals who apply for new entry under the following conditions (1) or (2) will, in principle, be considered to have "special circumstances" and will be allowed to enter Japan if a "responsible person" in Japan completes the prescribed application in the Immigration Status Verification System (ERFS).
(1) New entry for short term stay (3 months or less) for business, employment, etc. (tourist purposes are excluded)
(2) New entry for long term stay
